Bio
Coach Thornton will begin his first season at Lely High. He comes to us from his hometown of Peoria, IL, where he was the Head Coach that led the Peoria High Lions to the state finals twice, winning the championship in 2016. Thornton led offenses have set several Illinois records, including the overall points record of 805 in one season. Thornton's up-tempo, fast-paced offense and "Fast. Hard. Finish." mantra had the proclivity to score points. Four of the state’s top-10 most points in a game between two teams involve Peoria High. An 82-80 victory over Peoria Notre Dame on Nov. 15, 2016, stands as the top-scoring game in Illinois High School Association history. The 96 points scored against Decatur Eisenhower in 2016 is still tops among 5A playoff teams for most points in a game. Thornton was the Head Coach at his alma mater Woodruff High School for 6 seasons prior to Peoria High and coached as an Assistant Coach at Illinois State University(3 Seasons) as well. Coach Thornton and his wife Ivy have 2 kids, Alayla, 19, and Deuce, 18.
